Program of Study
Teaching has given me the opportunity to share with others the knowledge and experience I have acquired through the advanced study and performance of classical music. Many excellent professors and performers have instilled in me an understanding and great respect for an instrument that throughout music history has inspired composers to their finest musical achievements. I am very proud when I see and hear that students have come to understand that personal commitment, hard work, and perseverance earn them the privilege to participate in a great artistic tradition. My students follow a program of study that includes: |
• | Technical training in the patterns and techniques requisite to the performance of piano literature |
• | Theoretical and ear training to identify the form and content of a musical score |
• | Interpretive skills for musical performances |
• | Sight Reading skills to increase musical comprehension, speed of learning, and the ability to accompany others and join in ensemble playing. |
Student Events Students take part in festivals, recitals, competitions, technical skills evaluations and piano theory testing at the following events: |
• | Fall Festival Students prepare two solo piano works to be performed from memory and evaluated by professional musicians |
• | Winter Musicale Students perform a piano duet and two memorized solo pieces for an audience of friends and family |
• | Skills Day An evaluation by professional musicians of the studentʼs ability to perform progressive levels of the technical patterns found in music |
